I am Vana Beginin, an artist based in Birmingham, Michigan. Art reveals the truth - the culture of a nation, the attitudes of a person, even the nature of a struggle or a conflict. It is my true and life-long passion.
 

I love to paint and draw people. They are the driving force behind my portraits that are a predominant part of my artworks. Mostly, I like to capture their facial expression, a look, a gesture in a single moment. It often reveals to me a bit of their personality, often hidden behind their imposed posture portrayed to the outside world.

After receiving the “Best of Show” (Nancy Prophet Award), juror Jim Pujdowski who selected my oil painting, a portrait named “Untitled”, wrote the following:

“Vana Beginin stood out among the others because her painting has all the universal qualities I look for in great art (composition, shape, line-quality, value, gradation, contrast, and command of the medium). Ms. Beginin has caught the model's attention in a single moment. Many artists try, but few really can give reason to an expression.”

Portraits

My art centers around the human figure because
of my enduring interest in people’s facial expressions.
In my artistic representation, I aim to capture their personality, mood, emotions, spirit.

My work is also about connections that human beings make, an exploration of how we communicate in different situations, scenes.

Nature

Nature is an endless source of my yearning to grasp and record its wonders.

Old barns and farmhouses have a special place in my art. The colors of corn, grass, and different crops are always ready to be placed in a work of art.  

Colors of flowers are irresistible and can be a part of a landscape or become creations of an infinite variety of shapes and colors. Flowers seem to be the eternal draw for a recording of their beauty in any medium.

Animals / Pets

Animals, like people, have that something special that attracts attention or demands its uniqueness to record. Animals do not necessarily know they are beautiful but certainly bring attention to their expression or features that their owners or the artist wish to register.

ART is the expression of human skill and imagination
in a visual form such as sculpture or painting that awakens
the viewer's emotional response and appreciation.
